Alltel's First Windows Mobile-based Treo Smartphone Offers Businesses a Powerful Productivity Tool with Broadband Speeds

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. & SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec 15, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Alltel Wireless, America's largest network, and Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM), a leader in mobile computing, today announced the Palm(R) Treo(TM) 700wx smartphone, which comprises all the functionality and ease of use for which Treo smartphones are known, with the power and security of Windows Mobile.

"The Palm Treo 700wx, running Windows Mobile, allows us to offer our customers one of the world's most innovative smartphones running on the mobile software platform favored by many businesses," said Wade McGill, senior vice president of product management for Alltel Wireless. "This new offering will make it even easier for Alltel Wireless customers to remain connected and productive while away from the office."

The Treo 700wx builds on the award-winning design of the Treo 650 smartphone and takes advantage of Windows Mobile 5.0, offering the ability to view and edit Microsoft(R) Word Mobile and Excel(R) Mobile files, and view PowerPoint(R) Mobile and PDF files. In addition, users can get ready access to the Internet and multimedia content using Internet Explorer Mobile and Windows Media Player Mobile, as well as direct access to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 for mobile access to email.(1)

Unique to the Treo smartphone on Windows Mobile 5.0 is a suite of software enhancements developed by Palm that underscores its brand promise of fast access, ease of use and simplicity. Examples include the following:

-- Today Screen enhancements, which feature the ability to "dial by name" with a few keystrokes on the keyboard, perform a web search directly from the Today Screen and perform one-touch dialing with personalized photo speed dials;

-- Ability to manage a call directly from the Today Screen and stay on top of voicemail with on-screen, VCR-like icons, such as rewind, delete and fast-forward controls for easy navigation; and

-- Ability to ignore a call and quickly compose a text message such as "In a meeting" or "Can't talk right now" by selecting the "Ignore with text" option from the incoming-call screen.

"With the addition of the Treo 700wx to Alltel's product portfolio, customers now have another great choice of Treo products to check their email, browse the web and download and edit documents," said Tim Roper, vice president, U.S. region, for Palm, Inc. "Being able to give customers more choices satisfies the growing demands of the mobile work force."
